What made you decide to start volunteering at Sweet Springs?
My family and I have enjoyed the preserve for many years. My dad would come to visit from Minnesota and really enjoy visiting the preserve and watching the birds. I wanted to be part of a local project that would give back to the community and that all would be able to enjoy for many years to come. This is it!
What keeps you coming back?
Dedication to seeing the expansion of the preserve completed and making it into an area that our entire community can enjoy.
What has been your most memorable experience?
Working with the other Audubon volunteers to supervise the Grizzly Academy folks on special projects. Helping the young people develop an appreciation for good hard work and being responsible for completing a project.
Do you have any words of wisdom for first-time volunteers?
Follow directions and be careful which "weeds" you pull. Take time to get to know the other volunteers and enjoy the time with your hands in the soil. Hands in the soil is good for the soul!
What do you do when you're not volunteering?
I am employed by PG&E at Diablo Canyon Power Plant doing environmental work.
