Christmas Bird Count 2010/2011

The Carrizo Plain CBC will be on Saturday, December 31st, 2011. We will meeting at the Community Center/Fire Station on Soda Lake Road at 8:00 a.m. There is a five dollar fee for each participant.

Depending on the weather conditions, some participants might want to campout or stay at California Valley Lodge the night before. No official arrangements have been made at this time. I'll keep you posted if you are interested. Usually some of us scout the area the day before as well as get up early on the count date to look for owls and watch the sunrise over the Temblor Range. Be prepared for cold temperatures but on the contrary some counts have been very pleasant.

I usually break the group into 7-8 parties in the morning then re-group at 1 p.m. for lunch and to check the number of species observed. I may be assigning section leaders for those who are dedicated and knowledgeable of certain areas. Bring your own food/ water and come with a full tank of gas. Several parties bird the afternoon depending on what we need to find or confirm. I'm looking forward to a productive count as well as a great day of birding.
