FIELD TRIP: Santa Margarita Lake

SANTA MARGARITA LAKE FIELD TRIP

Monday, March 26th

Join park ranger Chuck Woodard and Jan Surbey at Santa Margarita Lake Monday, March 26^th from 9-11:30AM for a birding walk along the shoreline in search of waterfowl and oak woodland species. 

All experience levels welcome, although best suited for beginning and intermediate birders. One-two miles walking; bring binoculars, water, and snacks.  Trip will conclude by 11:30AM, but those who choose to may bring a picnic lunch and remain in the park for the rest of the day.

ACCESSIBLE FIELD TRIP & TOUR at Sweet Springs

Welcome to Sweet Springs EAST 

Field trip and Open House for mobility and /or sight impaired persons

Morro Coast Audubon Society issues an Open House invitation to experience the new ADA compliant trail at Ramona Avenue and 4th Street in Los Osos (limited van parking on 4th Street) on Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  The new one-third mile-long trail is accessible both to persons who are mobility impaired and those who are sight impaired. Bring your friends to enjoy a guided tour and enjoy light refreshments at the patio area as a guest of Audubon.

Audubon hosts will answer questions about the development of the new addition to Sweet Springs Preserve and be available to identify birds. Interpretive signs in raised text and Braille are located along the roped path, boardwalk and the viewing platform. Hear the birds, smell the briny back bay and feel breezes rustle the eucalyptus and cypress trees as you enjoy this nature wonderland. 

(Please note there are no restroom facilities.)

Reception at  6:30 pm & Program at 7 pm

at SLO Botanical Garden Oak Glen Pavilion in El Chorro Park

Birds of SLO, 2017 is a two part slide show featuring a very large number of outstanding images of over 200 species of birds taken last year by fifteen of the finest nature photographers in the county. The photos are amazing and their impact is heightened by the synergistic effect of live guitar accompaniment by Jack Collins and Bob Clark. The program will be preceded by an artist reception to honor the photographers. Drinks and snacks will be provided courtesy of MCAS. If you enjoy birds and birding, you’ll enjoy the evening. It will be great entertainment and motivation to get out and bird more often in our county. You’d be hard pressed to come up with an example of anything quite like it.

All MCAS Community Programs are free and open to the public.  As always, all ages are welcome.

FIELD TRIP: Shorebirds 101 Tuesday, Feb. 20th, at Morro Strand

When: Tuesday, February 20^th
Where: Morro Strand
Time: 8:30-10:00 AM

Join leaders Norma Wightman and Jan Surbey for this trip along Morro Strand on Tuesday from 8:30-10:00 am.

Targeted for beginners, but all ages and experience levels welcome. Expect to walk about a mile along the beach.

Meet at the Azure entrance to the beach at the north end of the Cloisters. (Turn towards the ocean at San Jacinto off Highway 1 in Morro Bay, then turn left when road ends to the Azure parking lot.) The Azure restrooms are not always unlocked, so plan to arrive a little early and use the restrooms located near the playground in the middle of the Cloisters if necessary.

Dressing in “layers” recommended. Bring binoculars if you have them; if not, the leaders will have some binoculars you may borrow for the trip. 

No RSVP needed. Rain cancels.
