Morro Coast Audubon Society Presents
FIELD TRIP: Visit the Beavers-SLO Beaver Brigade
DATES: Tuesday, May 17, 2022 OR Sunday, May 22, 2022
TIME: 9am to 11am
LEADER: SLO Beaver Brigade
CO-LEADER: Freddy Howell
These are very special trips and we hope that we can accommodate everyone who wants to come. We are asking that if you are retired or not working that you sign up for the Tuesday trip and leave the Sunday trip for those who only have the weekends available. Thanks for your understanding.
Trip is limited to 20 participants for each trip - A waiting list will be started once the trip is full.
Come learn about our neighbors, the beavers! Join us for a walk out to a beaver complex. The beavers have been maintaining this particular series of dams since April, 2020. You will see their dams and the signs they leave that tell you they are here. You will learn about their lodges, why they build dams, how they help remove carbon from the atmosphere, how they help during wildfires, how they provide resiliency during multi-year droughts and most importantly, you will get to immerse yourself in the wet, lush, habitat created by these keystone species in the middle of our arid North County. You won't be disappointed.
The walk is a half-mile walk out to the ponds on sandy, rocky trails. It is helpful to wear water shoes or tall boots since we typically walk into the water “up to our shins.”
Registration and Proof of Full COVID Vaccination Required!
Registration will open on the morning of May 2nd. The LINK to the Field Trip’s Registration Form will ONLY be sent out on above date via MCAS ALERT and SLOCOBIRDING. If you are not already a member of these email lists, you can join MCAS ALERT via JOIN OUR EMAIL LIST in the Footer of the MCAS websiteand/or SLOCOBIRDING via Groups.io.
