Trip is limited to 12 participants - Signups will be taken for 24 hours. Participants will be randomly selected. The remainder will be put on standby status in case of cancellations. Only registered people may attend.

Description: California native plants are all around us, they provide nourishment for wildlife and beauty to the landscape. We will meet at the Oceano Dunes Visitor Center and review some common plants we expect to see on our walk. We will also discuss using apps to help ID plants. We will walk the path along the Oceano Lagoon to the native plant gardens in the Oceano Campground. As we walk we will stop to identify plants and share stories about how they might have been used by the Chumash people, as well as discuss which ones might grow well in local gardens. This area tends to be very birdy so of course we will stop for any bird life we see.

The Visitor Center is open from 12-4pm and so if you are still around you can enjoy that as it is free! Feel free to bring your lunch. There are picnic tables.

Terrain: Mostly smooth, even terrain with a newly constructed boardwalk that hugs the shore of the lagoon.

Distance: 1 mile, maybe more if we walk around the campground searching for birds.

Bring a hat, water, snacks, sunscreen, binoculars, and field guides (if you have them) and dress in layers to accommodate wind and changing weather. Sturdy shoes are recommended.  Restrooms are available. Rain cancels.

ADA Accessible: Yes

Experience Level: All Levels Welcome
