Description:

We are all familiar with images of exotic animals suffering from human encroachment and habitat loss, such as pandas, white rhinos, and orangutans. However, conserving our local, often urban habitats is just as important. Much of our local wildlife faces a similar plight, but it often goes unnoticed. Roy Dunn's goal is to bring imagery of the stunning array of wildlife on the Central Coast to people's attention, helping them connect with local species rather than animals living half a world away. This presentation will feature imagery of local, mostly nocturnal wildlife, along with anecdotes about the challenges of capturing these images and footage. He will also share some of his work with P-22, the famous mountain lion who lived in the heart of Los Angeles for over a decade and became the catalyst for building the Annenberg Wildlife Crossing (the world's largest) which will open on December 2nd in Southern California.

Bio:

Roy Dunn is a photographer/cinematographer, known for capturing imagery of hummingbirds interacting in flight from 1996–2016. A retired electronic engineer, he now spends his time capturing wildlife imagery for local conservation organizations such as the Land Conservancy of SLO County, Greenspace and Willow Creek Conservancy. His footage has appeared in AppleTV and Disney/NatGeo documentaries as well as an upcoming production called 'Wild Hollywood' by RANfilm. His images are in museums, galleries and collections throughout the US.
