Morro Coast Audubon Society Presents

FIELD TRIP:    Global Big Day Big Sit at Audubon 4th Street Overlook

DATE:             Saturday, October 14th, 2023

TIME:              8:00am - 4:00pm

LEADER:        MCAS Field Trip Leader Team

Morro Coast Audubon Society’s Field Trip Committee invites you to celebrate Fall Global Big Day(GBD). Sponsored by Cornell’s eBird, tens of thousands of people go birding on a single day and enter their records into eBird. The final tally often exceeds 7,000 species—nearly three-quarters of the world’s bird species in a single day!

This event will be a Big Sit to be held at the Audubon 4th Street Overlook in Los Osos between 8:00am and 4:00pm. Come at any time, stay for about 30 minutes or longer. Different leaders will be there throughout the day with scopes to help you identify the birds that you see. The team will identify and record as many species of birds from this location during the Big Sit hours. The Overlook has wide views of the Back Bay with convenient access from the parking area. A list of birds seen will be posted and the official list will be tallied and submitted to eBird. We will share this list with all who register who have an eBird account.

Directions: Audubon's 4th Street Overlook is located at the northern terminus of 4th Street in Los Osos. From South Bay Blvd, turn west on Santa Ysabel Avenue and continue west to 4th or 3rd Street.

4th Street approach: park at the end of 4th street and proceed on foot past the guard rail to a footpath. The Overlook structure will be across a small parking lot and down a paved path.

3rd Street approach: drive to the northern end of 3rd Street and take a right on Santa Lucia Avenue, a gravel road will lead you to a small parking lot and a paved path to the Overlook.

Registration is requested for this event, but not required. This is not a limited event; all birders are welcome to stop by anytime between 8:00am and 4:00pm.

You DO NOT have to have an eBird account to participate, but leaders will be happy to answer questions about eBird.
