Giving Tuesday: Wildlife Camera Project

Great Horned Owl and Wildlife Camera Examples

As the Holiday season approaches, we would like to take a moment to express our deep gratitude for your unwavering support. Your participation in our programs, your generous donations and your countless hours of volunteer work have been instrumental in protecting and preserving the wildlife and habitats we all hold dear. Your dedication makes all the difference.

Giving Tuesday starts November 28, 2023, and we invite you to continue your support by contributing to our Wildlife Camera Project. Your donation will directly support the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of several wildlife cameras at our Sweet Springs Nature Preserve. These cameras will help us gather important data about the wildlife that calls our preserve home and share our conservation efforts and the diversity of life in our preserve with you.

We anticipate costs of the cameras, lock boxes, and maintenance to be around $1,000. Please join us on Giving Tuesday by making an online Targeted Donation or by sending a check to MCAS, PO Box 1507, Morro Bay, CA 93443 (Memo: “Wildlife Camera Project”).

By supporting this initiative, you’re not only contributing to the scientific understanding of our ecosystems but also sharing the gift of nature with people who cannot visit Sweet Springs in person!

Thank you for your support, and we wish you a wonderful and nature-filled holiday season.

Giving Tuesday: Osprey Nest Platform

First, we want to sincerely thank you for all of your generosity to this chapter.  Your assistance through volunteer hours and financial support, as well as participation in our events and programs, has been amazing.  Thank you.

This year we have a special ask for #GivingTuesday.  Many of you have seen the Osprey in the Morro Bay area and some of you have even provided photographic proof of them trying to establish nesting sites (unsuccessfully) in the Bay.  Following many discussions with experts, as well as local, state, and federal agencies, we are ready to move forward with establishing two nesting platforms for the Osprey.  We hope the Osprey won’t be discouraged from their year of trying and will find our nesting platforms acceptable.

We anticipate the costs of the platforms, installation and permits to be in the area of $5,000.  If you have an interest in the Osprey and in #GivingTuesday, please consider a MCAS online One-Time Targeted Donation to Osprey Platforms.  Or, send a check to MCAS, PO Box 1507, Morro Bay, CA 93443 (Memo: “Osprey Platform”). The first $500 will be matched by a generous donor. So, in the spirit of #GivingTuesday, please consider a donation to provide nesting sites to our interested Osprey!

UPDATE:

The MCAS membership and local Osprey would like to thank all of you who gave on #GivingTuesday. We are well on our way to funding one complete nesting site for our local Osprey. The targeted match was met before Tuesday and donations continued to come in to get us closer to our goal of $5000. We are proud of our membership as you  continue to step in to assist with projects, events and volunteering, all in the name of conservation.  We can't do it without you!

Thank you again!

Dear Supporters...

Dear Supporters of the Morro Coast Audubon Society,

This is normally the time of year when we send out our annual letter asking for your support. These are not normal times. We know that many of you may be struggling economically. Therefore, we are postponing our annual support drive until later this summer. We urge you to treat your community with compassion and take care of your friends, neighbors, and those in the world with little means. Please know that we are still here as an integral part of our local community.

Our Sweet Springs Nature Preserve continues to provide refuge for both birds and those of us seeking a peaceful sanctuary to stroll quietly in nature to nurture our spirits. The Audubon Overlook at 4th St continues to serve us all as a place of quiet contemplation. These are outstanding natural reserves where birds, plants, and other wildlife are treasured, and that we gladly share with the community. When using these locations, please remember to practice social distancing.

Should you have the means to help replenish our coffers at this time, we welcome any and all donations.

Thank you.

PAVER DEADLINE JULY 24th

Go to 2017 Sweet Springs Support Drive to order a paver
and have your name, dedication, or memorial
placed in the paver area at the East Sweet Springs Entrance.

Because our construction crew will be placing the engraved pavers
at random among the plain pavers at the entrance later this year,
MCAS needs your Paver order by midnight July 24th!

Since MCAS envisions continuing to offer engraved pavers each year,
orders received after July 24th will be engraved and
placed on the property during the 2018 season.
